The campaign slogan "YES for W.E.S" is not about me, it's about US. It's about saying YES to improving our Water, Engagement, and Safety. However, without your voice and your engagement the process within our local government will be broken.
When I look around Cape Canaveral, I see a special city that is truly one of a kind. However, we still have work to do. I will continue to fight for prioritizing our efforts to fix dangerous A1A, for a clean city that addresses blight, and a strong and resilient city that is ready for storms and prevents flooding.
I know you love this City. I do too. It’s been an honor to serve as your Mayor over the past three years.
Throughout my time in office, I’ve worked hard to ensure my actions speak louder than words when it comes to my commitment to this community.
Like many of you, I’ve felt frustrated at times by the challenges we face, which drove me to get involved and seek the root causes of major issues. As Mayor, I will continue to listen to your concerns, seeking your feedback, and making decisions with you, not for you. I believe that the foundations of public service should be honesty, transparency, and accountability, while always respecting the Ordinances, Charter, and the principles of our Constitution.
When it comes to the budget, I will prioritize safety, flooding, A1A, sidewalks, streetlights, Lagoon, and keeping our neighborhood feel. Strengthening our city’s resilience to storms through shoreline protection and energy independence also remains a priority. This year with a majority vote, we successfully passed the largest tax decrease in over a decade, while also reducing the City debt.
I take this job seriously. Let my actions as Mayor reflect how much I care about our city. If you feel my work aligns with our priorities, I humbly ask for your vote. Thank you. -Wes Morrison
In 1965, when Wes’ grandfather managed one of Cape Canaveral’s first grocery stores, “Storekeeper by the Sea,” he had no idea that one day his grandson would serve as Mayor. Wes is 41 years old and has lived here for 13 years. He grew up in Brevard as a child of the Space Program and met his wife Christina at Titusville High. Coming from humble beginnings, Wes worked hard to attend Florida State University, earning a degree in Political Science and a Business minor, becoming the first in the Morrison family to graduate from college. Today, Wes works in renewable energy, and the Morrisons enjoy biking, fishing, and watching daughter Parker surf and play high school softball.
Wes has been elected twice to the Cape Canaveral City Council and is serving his first 3-year term as Mayor. He also chairs the City’s Community Redevelopment Agency Board and volunteers for free meals, hurricane & flooding recovery, sea oat planting, and beach clean-ups. Wes supports Cape View Elementary, our First Responders, Suicide Prevention, and U.S. Veterans. An avid outdoorsman and fisherman, he also received an MRC Lagoon Conservation Award.
Wes takes residents' concerns seriously, actively seeking their input. As Mayor, he passed the City’s largest tax decrease in over a decade, led the opposition to the A1A Roundabout, and improved transparency/accountability in our local government, especially with recent changes and improvements in Code Enforcement. Wes prioritizes the budget responsibly, focusing on critical infrastructure, flooding, and core services over excessive spending on amenities.
Last month, with a 3-2 VOTE, Wes is proud to share that your City Council was finally able to pass a TAX DECREASE and reduce City Debt that had accumulated under the previous leadership/majority, while still funding our critical services - including increases in both Police & Fire budgets.
If you have been watching City Council meetings, you have heard an increased discussion and action on the accountability and transparency, especially in the areas of Code Enforcement. There have been significant changes in people, processes, and policies, along with tracking and customer service.
Since his first term on City Council, Wes has remained consistent that he may not always be against the "project" but he has been against the processes that were broken for many years. Wes has advocated for increased citizen input, taking care of what we have, and oversight on large capital expenditures with budgeting priorities.
